Project idea "ATTENTIVE PEDESTRIAN" (Europe)
On 14 November 2018, together with the patrol police in Odesa, we launched the "ATTENTIVE PEDESTRIAN" project as another part of our big project "SAFE WALKED WAYS"!
The PROJECT GOAL was to put warning signs directly on the pedestrian crossing markings! Such signs have been placed at schools, kindergartens and parks so that parents and children remember how important it is to cross the road correctly, without endangering themselves or their children!
An arrow sign shows which way a pedestrian should look first before crossing the road. The signs, take the child by the hand, don't listen to music when crossing and others, fulfil the MAIN PURPOSE OF THEY - SAVE LIVES!
Over the course of the experiment (more than two years) we have been contacted by many hundreds of parents who have said that texting really distracts from the habit of reading texts on their phones. It practically forces a child's hand. And it also teaches both adults and children how to behave more carefully when crossing the road.
A stencil and a spray can are enough to experiment with this type of lettering. Such paint will not last on the road for more than a week. But perhaps in this way you will bring the problem to the attention of the mayor's office. And the next signs will be done by city services with special non-erasable paint.
We hope that the positive experience of the project will be useful not only in Odesa, but also in other Ukrainian cities, and maybe even in Europe!
It's worth mentioning that in Odesa (in Ukraine), as part of this project, we are dealing with the installation of supports and devices for pedestrian crossing lights, signs, traffic lights with yellow signal... And we are also dealing with the issue of emergency safety of public transport stops!
